Arsenal midfielder Jill Roord netted a brace for The Netherlands in their 6-0 UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifying victory over Kosovo in Breda this evening.
The 23-year-old played the full 90 minutes for Sarina Wiegman’s side as they completed their qualifying campaign with a perfect record of 10 wins from 10 games.
Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Inessa Kaagman also featured, playing the first 64 minutes of the match while club teammate Danique Kerkdijk came on for the final 13 minutes.
To their credit, minnows Kosovo held the Dutch for 49 minutes before finally beginning to crumble. Katja Snoeijs netted the opening goal before Arsenal midfielder Roord quickly bagged the game’s second.
Lieke Martens then scored The Netherlands’ third goal within a nine-minute spell before Bordeaux forward Snoeijs netted her second goal of the game as Wiegman’s side went 4-0 up.
The Dutch rounded off the victory with two further goals in the last 10 minutes. Roord completed her brace in the 83rd minute before Snoeijs added a sixth goal a minute later as she claimed her first senior international hat-trick.
The Netherlands’ qualifying campaign has been quite phenomenal. In their 10 wins, The Orange Lionesses have scored 48 goals while they have conceded just three. The Dutch will be one of the tournament favourites in England in 2022 for sure, even without their departing head coach Wiegman.
