Bristol City have this morning released an update via their official website on the return of fans to their home matches at Twerton Park.
The club have announced that they hope to admit supporters to their home fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday 10 January 2021, meaning that this month’s matches against Aston Villa and West Ham United will remain behind-closed-doors.
With Twerton Park situated in the UK Government’s Tier 2 guidelines, the stadium is currently able to accommodate the return of spectators, however, the fact that Bristol finds itself in Tier 3 where crowds are not permitted has brought additional challenges for the club.
With the majority of Bristol City fans said to be living in Tier 3 areas and therefore not permitted to attend football matches, the club have made the decision to play their next two home fixtures behind-closed-doors. It is hoped that Bristol will move from Tier 3 to Tier 2 by the time The Robins face Brighton & Hove Albion early in the New Year.
The decision not to allow spectators until 2021 will have been a tough one to make for Bristol City with Tanya Oxtoby’s side currently enjoying a positive spell of form. The Robins are unbeaten in three matches in all competitions and have collected their first two points of the season in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in recent weeks. Victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday evening would see Bristol City climb from the bottom of the table up to 10th position.
