Preparation is key ahead of London City Lionesses’ showdown with Liverpool – Phillips

London City Lionesses head coach Melissa Phillips is hoping for a good week on the training pitch as her side prepare to take on promotion hopefuls Liverpool at Princes Park this weekend.

The Pride have won all of their last three home fixtures in the FA Women’s Championship but they will face a Liverpool side this weekend who are unbeaten in four themselves and have kept three consecutive clean sheets in the process.

Speaking to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time in London City Lionesses’ pre-match press conference, Phillips said that a good week of preparation is key to putting in a solid performance against a Liverpool side full of quality in Dartford on Sunday.

“Every league opponent is going to provide a difficult match for us and offer something different” said Phillips. “Liverpool have incredible quality for this league.

“Each game is another opportunity for us to get three points and we will focus on our preparation, that’s the biggest thing for us.

“We build on our momentum and belief in training and in meetings with each other and how we prepare each day for the weekend ahead.

“Of course we want the three points but our focus is on the performance that we put in on the day.”

London City Lionesses defeated Coventry United 2-0 at Princes Park in their last match and Phillips went on to express her delight that some of the hard work done on the training pitch during the week is coming off on matchday.

She added “The girls are ecstatic about the result.

“What was one of the most pleasing things was that we took some of the things that we had been working on in training and executed them in the match.

“We came off the pitch feeling like we deserved the three points and really eager to get going again on the training pitch.

“We know that even though it wasn’t our best performance, we have some lessons to build upon and some exciting things to take into next weekend.”

London City Lionesses’ FA Women’s Championship fixture against Liverpool is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Princes Park remains within the UK Government’s Tier 3 guidelines therefore the match will be played behind-closed-doors.
