Five players from the Barclays FA Women’s Super League have been named in The FIFA FIFPro Women’s World11 for 2020.
World football’s governing body, FIFA, revealed their final stellar team this evening during The Best FIFA Football Awards 2020 ceremony in Zurich. The ceremony was broadcast live across the world on FIFA TV.
The FIFA FIFPro Women’s World11 for 2020 included five English-based players. The final XI saw two players from Chelsea selected along with one player from each of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions’ title rivals Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United.
In defence, Manchester City’s Lucy Bronze, who was later crowned The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2020, was named alongside Chelsea centre-back and fellow England international colleague Millie Bright. The attacking element of The FIFA FIFPro Women’s World11 had a significant Barclays FA Women’s Super League flavour about it with Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema, Chelsea’s Pernille Harder and Manchester United’s Tobin Heath all having been selected.
Manchester City defender and The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2020, Bronze, was one of just two survivors from The FIFA FIFPro Women’s World11 of 2019. Her former Lyon teammate Wendie Renard was the other player who featured in last year’s team.
The FIFA FIFPro Women’s World11 2020 was determined by votes from thousands of professional players from around the globe. The fact that five Barclays FA Women’s Super League players were amongst the 11 most-favourable selections shows just how highly the league is rated across the world.
