PREVIEW: Lewes v Durham

Durham begin their month of mammoth away trips with an FA Women’s Championship fixture against Lewes at The Dripping Pan this afternoon.

The fixture computer has been truly wicked to Lee Sanders’ promotion-chasing side who will cover 1,888 miles in total this month before they face their first home game of 2021 in a fortnight’s time.

The Wildcats’ latest opponents Lewes have made an impressive start to the 2020/2021 season in which they have averaged 1.4 points-per-game. That points average is considerably higher than Lewes’ tally when last season’s competition was curtailed while Simon Parker’s side are just four points short of recording their best-ever return in the second tier.

Lewes will be looking to return to winning ways on home soil this afternoon after suffering their first league defeat of the season at The Dripping Pan against Crystal Palace last time out. Prior to that maiden home loss, The Rookettes had taken nine points from an available 12.

Durham make the long trip south on the back of an excellent 2-0 victory over former top flight side Liverpool last time out. Sanders’ side are the only team in the top two tiers to be undefeated in all competitions this season while they have won their last three matches on the road in the FA Women’s Championship.

The Wildcats travel to Sussex without long-term absentees Abby Holmes and Iris Achterhof who are recovering from Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries.

The Dripping Pan pitch will be assessed this morning following overnight frost but with temperatures rising, it is hoped that the game will go ahead as planned.

Lewes will be streaming the game live and fans can watch by clicking here. The club are encouraging those who do tune in to make a donation to help support them through these unprecedented times.
