Brighton & Hove Albion forward Rianna Jarrett believes that her side must focus on putting the big chances away in the opposition box if they are to improve their goalscoring record in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season.
The Seagulls are currently the second-lowest scorers in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season with seven goals in 10 games, a record which is just one goal better than bottom club Bristol City.
Hope Powell’s side have the opportunity to complete a league double this weekend when they travel to Birmingham City and when speaking to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time ahead of that match, Jarrett said that her side must start converting a greater percentage of their chances.
“There are always things that you can do to produce more goals but first and foremost, we need to start to put away the chances that we create” the forward said. “Looking back on games against other teams, the difference has been that they have put away more of the chances that they have created.
“As a striker being in those positions, it is frustrating when we don’t take them.
“We definitely need to be more clinical because there are going to be games where you might only create one or two chances and you need to put them away to get points on the table.”
Jarrett has been an unused substitute in Albion’s last two matches but she is continuing to work hard and learn on the training pitch to give herself the best possible chance of a recall to the starting XI.
She said “Every week is a challenge in terms of getting in the starting XI.
“It is a great place to learn in terms of the feedback that we get from the management and from the coaches from the previous week.
“For me, it is just about keeping my head down and working hard and hopefully the opportunities will come. More importantly, when those opportunities come hopefully I can take them and get a good run of games.”
Brighton & Hove Albion’s latest Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Birmingham City is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon and will be available to stream live on the FA Player.
