Birmingham City have completed the signing of goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse from Barclays FA Women’s Super League rivals Tottenham Hotspur according to reports on the Blues’ official website.
The 24-year-old Enfield-born stopper moves to the SportNation.bet Stadium on a deal which will run until the end of the season. Whitehouse will provide competition for Hannah Hampton for the first-choice goalkeeping jersey.
Whitehouse has been used as cover for Spurs goalkeeper Becky Spencer since she joined the club in early October. The keeper has been named amongst the substitutes on nine occasions but has never been fielded by the North Londoners.
With second-choice Spurs keeper Aurora Mikalsen now returning to full fitness following a recent ankle injury, playing opportunities for Whitehouse would have been even more difficult to come by in the coming months and the player has therefore completed the move to Birmingham City.
Prior to her short spell at Spurs, Whitehouse spent time in the United States. In her youth, the keeper represented Potomac Hotspurs before later starring at senior level for both Columbia and Santa Clara University sides.
Whitehouse could be involved for new club Birmingham City for the first time next weekend when the Blues travel to Everton for their latest Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture.
