Arsenal goalkeeper Zinsberger called up to Austrian squad for Visit Malta Women’s Trophy

Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger has been called up to represent Austria in this month’s Visit Malta Women’s Trophy fixtures against Sweden and Slovakia.

The 25-year-old is the only English-based player to feature in Austrian head coach Irene Fuhrmann’s 23-player squad with Arsenal teammate Viktoria Schnaderbeck missing out on selection as a consequence of her ongoing knee injury.

The Austrian Football Association, the OFB, confirmed Zinsberger’s inclusion in head coach Fuhrmann’s squad for the Visit Malta Women’s Trophy tournament earlier today. The player is the only one of Fuhrmann’s three goalkeepers to have featured for Austria at senior level with Zinsberger boasting 66 senior caps.

Austria begin their Visit Malta Women’s Trophy involvement with a fixture against Sweden on 19 February before Fuhrmann’s side take on Slovakia four days’ later. Austria are not schedule to face tournament hosts Malta during the five-day competition. All games will take place at the Hibernians Football Ground in Paola.

After finishing as runners-up to group winners France in the race for UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualification, Austria face a nervous wait to determine whether they will qualify for the tournament as one of the best runners up or if they will have to face a play-off.  Austria should learn of their fate later this month.
