England interim head coach Hege Riise says that the lack of chances created by her side was the most disappointing factor in their 2-0 defeat to Canada at the bet365 Stadium last night.
While two individual errors cost England dearly, they tested visiting keeper Stephanie Labbe on just three occasions on a night where the Lionesses again failed to deliver.
Speaking in the post-match press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present, Riise said that the lack of goalscoring opportunities created by her side was the most frustrating factor in the defeat.
“I’m disappointed to lose this game,” Riise said. “The thing that I am most disappointed with is that we didn’t create enough chances.
“We had the ball, we seemed to switch the play better in the second half than in the first but we didn’t create enough to get the goals.”
England lost both games against France and Canada in this international window but Riise is not overly concerned by the results at this stage, she believes that her side will learn from their mistakes and will kick on in the next camp.
“I am very confident that we will learn from this and seize the opportunities going forward,” she said. “I’m pleased to have been able to see all of the players in these two games and moving forward, I am confident that we will perform better.
“The player reaction to how we want to play has been positive, now it is more about how we can get into the final third and create the chances. We know that we own the ball a lot but we need to be more resilient in what we do with that last pass to take the opportunities to create chances.”
England’s defeat against Canada was their third in their last four games. Interim head coach Riise is just a month away from announcing her 18-player Team GB squad for the Olympics.
