Spurs ace Naz nets consolation as Young Lionesses are defeated by Germany

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Jessica Naz netted a consolation goal for England Under-19s as they were defeated 2-1 by Germany Under-19s in their opening match at the UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship in Perth this evening.

Two first half goals from Germany left England with a mountain to climb but Rehanne Skinner’s side battled well in the second half as they came away with some credit.

The Young Lionesses fell behind after just 12 minutes when Melissa Kossler glanced Gina Chmielinski’s cross into the corner of the net.

Ebony Salmon fired over as Skinner’s side searched for an equaliser before disaster soon struck when the Germans scored their second goal of the game.  Lisa Ebert’s long ball was expertly controlled by Paulina Krumbeigel who kept calm to slot the ball beyond Hannah Hampton in the England goal.

Manchester United midfielder Lauren James went close shortly after the restart but Wiebe Willebrandt did well to keep out her venomous effort before the German keeper denied Manchester City’s Lauren Hemp.

James curled a stunning free-kick onto the bar in the last minute before Naz netted a late consolation goal for England when she converted a Hemp cross.

England will look to get some points on the board when they face Spain in their second group match in Stirling on Friday, a game which will be covered by FAWSL Full-Time.
