Chelsea’s huge FA Women’s Super League clash with Manchester City this weekend might be that little bit more important given their fixtures away from home in the New Year.
The former champions meet at Kingsmeadow on Sunday in one of the FA Women’s Super League’s Lunchtime offerings.
The match will be the last of three huge home fixtures for Emma Hayes’ side. They have already defeated Arsenal and Manchester United at Kingsmeadow and now they will aim to complete the set by seeing off Nick Cushing’s Manchester City side.
After last weekend’s late postponement of Chelsea’s game at fourth-placed Everton, Sunday’s fixture takes extra importance with The Blues having slipped to fourth in the FA Women’s Super League table. As well as having to play in-form Everton twice in the New Year, the South West Londoners have the disadvantage of having to visit Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United after the festive period, meaning that they have it all to do to win back the title in stunning fashion.
Chelsea travel to Meadow Park to face the current champions on 19 January before facing Manchester United and Manchester City in consecutive away games in February.
Once The Blues have played those massive season-defining games, we should have a better idea of their title credentials but for now, all eyes are on Sunday’s Christmas cracker at Kingsmeadow.
