Birmingham City manager Marta Tejedor is set to welcome midfielder Sarah Mayling back to the squad for Sunday’s FA Women’s Super League fixture against league leaders Arsenal at Meadow Park according to official club media sources.
The 22-year-old Sutton Coldfield-born midfielder has been out of action for the last two months with a knee injury but it has now been confirmed that Mayling has resumed full training as the Birmingham City squad have returned from their mid-season break.
Mayling is understood to be building up her fitness and she could be given minutes against champions Arsenal in Boreham Wood on Sunday, although it is highly unlikely that the former Aston Villa midfielder will feature for the full 90 minutes.
The player returns to the squad at a good time with Birmingham City unbeaten in their last two league outings after a stuttering start to the new season. A 2-0 victory at fellow strugglers Bristol City last time out has given Tejedor’s side some real breathing space in the battle for survival in the FA Women’s Super League.
Mayling has impressed for Birmingham City since joining the club in 2017 and the player signed a new contract extension at the SportNation.bet Stadium just nine months ago.
