Liverpool’s FA Women’s Super League clash with rivals Manchester United at Prenton Park has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
A wet winter has taken it’s toll on the playing surface at Tranmere Rovers FC and following heavy overnight rain, there is standing water on the pitch this morning. The match was officially called off following an inspection by a referee at around 10am.

The pitch at Prenton Park has come in for some criticism in recent weeks after cutting up and balding in some place. Both Tranmere Rovers and Liverpool Women have played matches on the surface in recent weeks and the surface has struggled to cope with the demands of regular football.
Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United was set to see the two sides contest a competitive fixture for the third time in 18 months. United had won the two previous meetings including a 1-0 victory at Prenton Park in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup last season.
In the FA Women’s Championship, Lewes’ fixture at Blackburn Rovers has also been called off due to a waterlogged pitch at Bamber Bridge FC. The news will be hard to take for The Rookettes boss Fran Alonso and his players with Lewes having already made the long trip to the North West.
The other eight remaining FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship fixtures are set to go ahead.
