Arsenal’s Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie with Lewes at Meadow Park has been postponed on safety grounds, the club have this morning announced.
The pair were due to meet in Boreham Wood at 1pm this afternoon but the match has been postponed due to the ongoing difficult weather conditions brought to the United Kingdom by Storm Dennis.
The Gunners have announced that the match has been rescheduled for Sunday 23 February and will again kick-off at 1pm with all tickets purchased for the original tie remaining valid.
The postponement is a real headache for both clubs with already hectic fixture lists. Arsenal’s FA Women’s Super League fixture against Reading next Sunday will now be postponed to make way for the rescheduled Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie, doing The Gunners no favours as the club look to make up ground in the title race.
Likewise, Lewes are currently fighting relegation from the FA Women’s Championship and will now also have to reschedule another fixture with their trip to Sheffield United next weekend now postponed.
In other news, Leicester City are expected to undertake a safety check this morning to determine whether their tie against Reading at Farley Way can take place while Sunderland will also inspect ahead of their fixture against Birmingham City.
