The weather is set to have it’s say on the women’s footballing calendar for a fourth consecutive weekend with Storm Jorge forecast to sweep it’s way through the country on Saturday, bringing high winds to the FA Women’s Continental League Cup final.
Arsenal and Chelsea are set to contest the final at The City Ground in Nottingham and while significant accumulations of rain are not expected, BBC weather are forecasting winds of 49 mph for the showpiece.
The game is expected to go ahead, however, conditions could prove to be difficult for both sides in what could be a fascinating encounter on the banks of the Trent. With some travel disruption possible, fans may need to allow additional travelling time to ensure that they arrive at The City Ground in good time for kick-off.
The storm is the fourth to cause havoc for the women’s game on four consecutive weekends. Storm Ciara brought the complete cancellation of games in the FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship on 9 February before Storm Dennis saw three Women’s FA Cup ties postponed a week later. Storm Ellen arrived last Saturday, causing one postponement in the FA Women’s Championship and now Storm Jorge will have it’s say with the cup final and two FA Women’s Championship fixtures scheduled to take place across the weekend.
