Former Manchester City striker extends stay in Paris following a week of intrigue

Former Manchester City striker Nadia Nadim has ended a week of teasing fans over her next career move by announcing that she has extended her contract at current club Paris Saint-Germain by a further year.

The 32-year-old Danish international forward had hinted on social media that she could have been poised to move on when her contract runs out this summer after posting a message which read ‘Thank You Paris’ on her Twitter account.

FA Women’s Super League Full-Time have been contacted by the player’s representatives this afternoon to confirm that Nadim has signed a new contract with PSG, ending an intriguing few days in which her immediate future has been a hot topic of discussion.

French club PSG also broke the news to their fans by publishing a personal letter from Nadim which when translated into English reads:

‘Dear Paris,

Since I was a child, Paris has always been a symbol for something beautiful, elegant and spiritual. A city that shares the same values as myself. A city that I feel the need to protect at all costs.

Therefore, it was a dream for me when I signed for Paris Saint-Germain in January 2019. I got the chance of living in the beautiful city of Paris, and representing one of the best clubs in the world.

From the first day in Paris, the city of Paris and the French people have taken me in as one of their own, and I have enjoyed every single second of it.

Everything in my daily life has been amazing since moving to Paris. I am not exaggerating when I say that I have been living my dream for the past year-and-a-half. From when I wake up in the morning, until I go to bed in the evening, I’ve spent every day with a smile on my face, in a way that I have never experienced before. Finally, I am enjoying life to the full.

I have Paris to thank for that.

My professional experience as a player of Paris Saint-Germain has been very good. We have something good going on for the coming seasons. We have not yet reached our goals, but we’re on the way there. Everyone from the kit manager to the club executives are all doing their best to achieve success. We have a goal that everyone fights for.

The club shows great confidence in me as a player and as a person, and I feel very valued in everything I do, on and off the field. I was honoured to be given the role as the vice-captain for this season, something that has given me great pride as a player.

This season, I feel better than ever. I have scored my goals, provided assists and I feel like I have really contributed in every game. I have never been in this good shape physically and mentally. Could you imagine, at the age of 32, feeling that you have your best seasons yet to come? Its fantastic. Its a feeling that I have never experienced before.

I have Paris Saint-Germain to thank for that.

I do love the city of Paris and I do love Paris Saint-Germain. I feel like I have a responsibility towards the club, the fans and the city of Paris. I am not ready to let go of that responsibility just yet.

With this said, the obvious choice for me is to stay in Paris and at Paris Saint-Germain. Therefore, I have taken the thoughtful decision to extend my contract with the club.
