Since our formation in 2015, one event which we are really proud of and eagerly await on our calendar is our Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club Player of the Season award.
The winner is voted for by our supporters’ club members every year in what is a very democratic process. We did not want to restrict any views by coming up with a shortlist of candidates each year, the policy which we adopt is a very simple one, each member gets one vote and they can vote for any player either via social media or E-mail. Once all of the votes have been cast, our secretary Jayne counts, scrutinises and double checks them and the player with the most votes wins the award.
We have had a number of enquiries from our members with regard to whether we will be running the award again this season with the current campaign suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic. We are delighted to inform our members and the wider Manchester City family that we will indeed be doing so. The plan is to wait and see what decisions are made about the completion of the season and when that news is made official, we will come up with a way of making sure the award process takes place.
This year, as a thank you to our members for their patience, everyone who casts a vote will be entered into a special draw to win a signed Manchester City shirt.
We have had a prestigious list of past winners and there are a few very strong candidates vying to add their names to those already inscribed on our beautiful trophy.
Roll of Honour
2015 Izzy Christiansen
2016 Lucy Bronze
2017/2018 Keira Walsh
2018/2019 Nikita Parris
We will present the winner of this year’s award with the trophy at a point when we are all back watching games and some semblance of normality has resumed. Regardless, of whether the season is declared void, ended or continues, it is important to us as a supporters’ group that our players’ achievements this season are recognised just like they have been for the last four or five years.
