Arsenal boss Joe Montemurro has bolstered his side’s midfield with the signing of Swiss international Malin Gut according to reports on The Gunners’ official website.
The 19-year-old midfielder joins the North Londoners from Swiss side Grasshopper Club Zurich whom she joined from FC Zurich in 2019.
Gut made her senior club debut for FC Zurich at the age of just 15 and has gone from strength-to-strength. Despite not turning 20 for another month, Gut featured 23 times for Grasshopper Club Zurich, scoring six goals in that time and she has already made eight appearances for the Swiss national team.
Upon signing for Arsenal, the midfielder said “It’s a very big honour for me to be able to play and represent this club in the future.
“From the beginning it felt like everything fitted perfectly. I talked to Joe a lot which helped because he was really able to convince me from the first second and I felt that he’s the kind of coach I really want to play with. I’m very, very excited to play with the Arsenal shirt for the first time.”
There will certainly be one familiar face for Gut when she arrives at Meadow Park. She joins international compatriot Lia Wälti in the Arsenal midfield.
Gut is Arsenal’s second signing of the summer following the announcement yesterday that Australian international left-back Steph Catley would also be joining The Gunners. After finishing third in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League last season, Arsenal will certainly need to add strength and depth across the park if they are to compete with Manchester City and Chelsea again, who themselves have already added players to their ranks so far this summer.
