Full-back Chelsey Jukes has signed a new contract with Blackburn Rovers for the coming season according to reports on the FA Women’s Championship club’s official website.
The 23-year-old has been with Rovers since summer 2017 and has helped Gemma Donnelly’s side win promotion from the third tier and go on to become a stable side in the FA Women’s Championship.
With Rovers boss Donnelly beginning to assemble her squad for the coming season, it has today been revealed that defender Jukes has committed her immediate future to the club by signing professional terms. The player joins Rovers teammates Saffron Jordan, Ellie Stewart, Natasha Fenton and Kayleigh McDonald in signing on at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium for the new FA Women’s Championship campaign.
Jukes started her career on Merseyside with Everton but soon joined Blackburn Rovers where she initially impressed with the Development Squad before making her senior debut for the club in 2017. She was crowned the Manager’s Player of the Year for her performances for Rovers during the 2019/2020 campaign. Jukes made nine appearances for her side in the FA Women’s Championship last season as Rovers battled to a seventh-place finish.
Blackburn Rovers settled well into the second tier last season after an initial slow start. Should manager Donnelly continue to retain the core of her squad and add a few new signings, there is no reason why Rovers can’t be a surprise package this season.
