Durham full-back Abby Holmes has extended her stay at New Ferens Park by a further year according to reports on The Wildcats’ official website.
The 29-year-old Northallerton-born defender has spent the last two seasons with Durham, playing an important role in the squad.
Holmes made 13 appearances for The Wildcats in the FA Women’s Championship last season, scoring in the 3-0 victory over Lewes at New Ferens Park.
The defender has brought plenty of experience and craft with her to Durham. Holmes has previously been promoted from the second tier with Sunderland while she appeared for the Wearside club in the top flight over the course of three campaigns. Her top level experience continued as she spent a short spell in the Eredivisie-Vrouwen with PEC Zwolle.
Since returning to England and joining Lee Sanders’ Durham side, Holmes has helped The Wildcats mount two promotion challenges. The club have not been all that far away and the defender will be hoping that it is now a case of third time lucky.
Holmes becomes the 11th member of Durham’s 2019/2020 squad to renew terms for the new season. Manager Sanders has also added two new faces in Mollie Lambert and Bridget Galloway from neighbours Sunderland.
