Former AFC Fylde winger Leah Embley has today joined FA Women’s Championship club Blackburn Rovers according to reports on their official website.
The 24-year-old midfielder featured three times for The Coasters last season having previously represented third tier side Huddersfield Town. Prior to this, she played for Burnley and during her time with The Clarets, she helped them to FA Women’s National League Division One title and won the league’s Player of the Season award in the process.
Manager Gemma Donnelly gave her feelings on her latest signing by telling the club’s official media channels “Leah has worked incredibly hard over the summer to best position herself for Championship football.
“She has impressed me over her several weeks of trials and whilst she understands the demand from us to continue to improve, she has a real determination to want to cement a regular starting place.
“Her work ethic and attitude has been fantastic and I look forward to working with Leah this season.”
Blackburn Rovers finished in a very respectable seventh place in their first season in the FA Women’s Championship in 2019/2020. Manager Donnelly has brought in several new recruits who are below the age of 21. Consequently, she will be relying on many players who are untested in this division and it will be fascinating to see whether her young squad can rise to the challenge.
