Australian international midfielder joins West Ham United on loan

West Ham United manager Matt Beard has secured the services of Australian international midfielder Emily van Egmond on a loan deal from Orlando Pride according to reports on The Hammers’ official website.

The 27-year-old Newcastle-born midfielder will stay with the East Londoners until 31 December before returning to the United States.

Van Egmond has enjoyed a 12-year senior playing career to date in which she has represented 11 different clubs. Most of her time has been spent either playing in the American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) or in Australia in the W-League. Some of her former clubs include the Newcastle Jets, Seattle Reign, the Chicago Red Stars, Orlando Pride and Melbourne City. The player has also spent time in Denmark and Germany in the past.

Upon joining West Ham United, van Egmond told the club’s official media sources “I am really excited to join West Ham United, I’ve heard only good things about this Club. It’s great to join this team in a league that is only getting more and more competitive.

“I am excited to play for this Club and I’ve heard the Women’s Super League in England is definitely on the rise. You can see that in the signings that have come to England, so I’m really excited to be here and I’m excited for the challenge.”

The midfielder could make her debut for The Hammers when they travel to The Hive to take on London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the 2020/2021 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season.
