New Zealand international defender joins Liverpool

Liverpool manager Vicky Jepson has completed her fourth signing of the summer in New Zealand international defender Meikayla Moore according to reports on The Reds’ official website.

The 24-year-old Christchurch-born centre-back makes the move to Prenton Park following a spell playing in Germany with MSV Duisburg.

Moore has made 30 appearances for The Zebras in the FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga over the course of the last two seasons. In 2019/2020, she helped MSV Duisburg record a ninth-place finish in the German top flight, the club avoiding relegation due to their superior defensive record over both Bayer Leverkusen and 1. FC Koln.

The 35-times capped New Zealand international will now test herself in the English game after joining FA Women’s Championship promotion hopefuls Liverpool. Moore joins Rachael Laws, Taylor Hinds and Amalie Thestrup in moving to Prenton Park so far this summer.

Upon signing for The Reds, Moore told the club’s official media sources “I’m really ecstatic to finally be here. The first few days have gone as well as anyone could have hoped.

“When I started talks with Vicky [Jepson] and Emma [Humphries], I’m at a time in my career where I needed a new adventure and a new opportunity and I’m thankful that they were willing to give that to me.

“I’m excited to get here and really work hard for this team, for the staff, the club and the badge. It’s a massive club so it’s a huge honour to be here.”

Moore will wear the number 15 shirt at Liverpool this season and she could make her debut against Durham at Prenton Park next weekend.
