Manchester City forward Lauren Hemp will miss the start of the new Barclays FA Women’s Super League season with a hamstring injury the club have confirmed.
The 20-year-old’s chances of being fit for the new campaign did not look good as she left the field after just 26 minutes as Manchester City lost 2-0 to Chelsea in the FA Women’s Community Shield at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
The Manchester City medical team have now assessed the player’s injury and the club have confirmed that Hemp will miss the start of the season via a post on their official club Twitter account. She is expected to be absent from both of her side’s opening games in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League as well as City’s Women’s FA Cup quarter-final tie at Leicester City at the end of this month.
We can confirm that @lauren__hemp is set for a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
Hemp sustained the injury during our Community Shield fixture, and will now begin her rehabilitation.
Everybody at the Club wishes Lauren a speedy recovery 💙

Once fit, Hemp will be hoping that the 2020/2021 campaign is her most fruitful to date. The youngster’s goal contribution almost doubled last season, her second campaign in a Manchester City shirt. Hemp averaged 0.2 goals per game for City in her first campaign with the club but recorded a much-improved 0.35 goals per game average last season.
As well as being absent for her club, Hemp’s hamstring injury has also ruled her out of England’s upcoming training camp at St George’s Park later this month.
