Young Norwegian goalkeeper joins Bristol City

Bristol City manager Tanya Oxtoby has completed her seventh signing of the summer in the form of young Norwegian goalkeeper Benedicte Haaland according to reports on the club’s official website.

The 22-year-old moves to Twerton Park on a free transfer after recently leaving Swiss club FF Lugano 1976 and she will compete for the number one jersey with Bristol City fans’ favourite Sophie Baggaley.

The Robins boss Oxtoby was expected to go into the transfer market for a new goalkeeper this summer after former keeper Eartha Cumings left the club at the end of her contract. The Scot has since dropped down to the FA Women’s Championship, joining last season’s bottom club Charlton Athletic.

Upon signing for Bristol City, former Norwegian Under-19 international keeper Haaland told the club’s official media sources “I’m really excited for a new challenge in my career and I’m grateful for the opportunity to join Bristol City Women.

“The game is growing massively here in England and I’m excited to get to work with my new teammates.

“Sophie is a top goalkeeper and I’m looking forward to us working together and pushing each other to get better in training.”

Haaland’s former club made their debut in the UEFA Women’s Champions League last season but the player was not in the squad as they faced Manchester City in the last-32 stage of the competition.
