Birmingham City announce double signing just hours before season opener

Birmingham City have announced the double signing of Chelsea defender Jamie-Lee Napier and midfielder Destiney Toussaint ahead of this afternoon’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Blues take on Hope Powell’s side at The People’s Pension Stadium this afternoon in their opening match of the 2020/2021 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season.

Birmingham City have revealed that two new signings will be in Carla Ward’s squad for their match against The Seagulls.

Left-back Napier joins Birmingham City on a season-long deal from Chelsea. The 20-year-old Scot joined the South West Londoners from Hibernian in December but has struggled for game time at Kingsmeadow. The defender played just 14 minutes of Barclays FA Women’s Super League action for Chelsea last season in wins over Bristol City and Reading.

Midfielder Toussaint has joined Birmingham City on a free transfer. The winger was formerly on the books at second tier club London Bees but has been sidelined for a substantial period recovering from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

Birmingham City announced both deals on their official club Twitter account earlier this morning. It is understood that the pair will be available for selection at The People’s Pension Stadium this afternoon as Ward’s side look to get their season off to a positive start.
