Durham’s Dutch forward Iris Achterhof has revealed that she tore her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) at Liverpool last weekend and is now set for a significant period on the sidelines.
The striker went down in some pain in the 77th minute of last weekend’s meeting at Prenton Park and was forced off, leaving Durham to play out the remainder of the match with 10 players with manager Lee Sanders having already made all of his substitutions.
The Wildcats battled on heroically as Beth Hepple’s late goal rescued an unlikely point for the visitors but it wasn’t all good news for Durham. Forward Achterhof has today revealed the extent of her injury with the player confirming on her personal Twitter account that she has an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear which is likely to rule her out of action for a number of months.
Officially joining the ACL club… Devastated to have found out I tore my ACL in the season opener against Liverpool. Long road ahead but I’ll be back. Couldn’t ask for better support from the club and everyone around me 💙Just another opportunity for me to grow!

Achterhof joined Durham last year following a spell playing in the United States. The player is a former Dutch youth international who has played in the top divisions in both The Netherlands and Iceland earlier in her career.
Last season saw Achterhof represent Durham on 13 occasions in the FA Women’s Championship while she netted three goals for Sanders’ side as they finished in third position on a points per game basis.
