Welcome to the latest update from the Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club.
The OSC were delighted to hear the news last week that a City legend has re-joined the club alongside another fellow European champion. We would all like to welcome both Lucy Bronze and Alex Greenwood back to Manchester.
We have had a really good transfer window this year with Lucy and Alex adding to the signings of Chloe Kelly, Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis and we can’t wait to be back in the stadiums singing out their names loud and proud.
We are all really happy to see the Barclays FA Women’s Super League season back up and running. We have started with a victory at Aston Villa and a home goalless draw with Brighton & Hove Albion. I’m sure that we would rather be sitting on six points but to be fair, Brighton & Hove Albion were good value for their point, they played well and Megan Walsh was excellent in goal for them.
With the current situation meaning that there are still no spectators at our games, we wanted to make sure that the team were aware that we are still behind them with every kick. We arranged to have a selection of our wonderful OSC flags displayed within the stadium for the first home game. It may just help a little to know that during this period, while we cant be there in person, we are always there in spirit.
The new season has as usual meant that some of our members have been asked to do a few bits of media work. Our Treasurer, Jayne Comer, was a guest on ‘Talking Balls ‘ the evening football show on BBC Radio Manchester. We have also continued to be regular contributors to the Man City Women Fancast (@mcwfancast) with Emma Meredith-Shone which is always a pleasure. We recorded a season preview which was a great chat to get us all in the mood for the new season. Our members Jennie, Jude and Audrey have all contributed to articles on City Fan TV (@RayCityFanTV1). This is a YouTube channel, that covers all aspects of the club and offers great coverage of the women’s team.
It was good to see the first Barclays FA Women’s Super League test event take place last weekend as West Ham United took on Arsenal and were able to allow limited spectators into the ground. There is an excellent vlog of the day available via the Free Lionesses (@FreeLionesses) Twitter feed, it is well worth a look. We want all test events to go well to hopefully enable a safe return to games for all of us eventually.
With the international break, we have a slight breather before we return to action. Our next fixture is our quarter-final tie at Leicester City in last season’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup, with the winners’ prize being a home tie against either Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur. We are just sad that once again fans cannot attend, but we will all be there in spirit.
Stay safe and enjoy your football
