Lewes to welcome fans back for Coventry United clash

Lewes will welcome fans back to The Dripping Pan to watch an FA Women’s Championship match for the first time in more than seven months next weekend when they face Coventry United.

The Rookettes recently hosted a successful pre-season pilot event when they faced second tier rivals London Bees in-front of a small ‘socially distanced’ crowd and the club are now set to build on that milestone with a greater number of spectators able to attend their upcoming clash with Coventry United.

Full details of the pilot are yet to be publicised by Lewes, however, the club have indicated that season ticket holders will be permitted to attend while 250 general sale single tickets will be made available on Monday.

Lewes’ fixture against Coventry United will be the second competitive fixture in the top two tiers of the women’s game to be played in-front of a crowd. Last weekend saw West Ham United’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League match against Arsenal take place with almost 1,000 spectators in attendance at The Chigwell Construction Stadium in Dagenham.

Initial details of Lewes’ FA Women’s Championship fixture against Coventry United have been revealed on the club’s Twitter account this lunchtime.

The Rookettes began their 2020/2021 FA Women’s Championship campaign with a 3-0 defeat at Durham last weekend. Simon Parker’s side were exceptional for 80 minutes in the North East before suffering a late collapse which saw them surrender their share of the spoils.
