Former Manchester City forward Tessa Wullaert has another opportunity to wreak-havoc against Zulte Waregem with latest side RSC Anderlecht set to face the club’s B Team in the Belgian Women’s Cup this afternoon.
The 27-year-old hotshot, who swapped Manchester City in favour of a return to her homeland in the summer, netted a double hat-trick against Zulte Waregem’s first team in an 11-0 victory in a Belgian Women’s Super League fixture three weeks ago. Ironically, the player started her senior career in Zulte back in 2008.
Wullaert could be involved again for Anderlecht this afternoon as they face second tier side Zulte Waregem II in the fourth round of the Belgian Women’s FA Cup. Given her 37-minute second half goal blitz against the Zulte Waregem first team, the Belgian side’s B Team must be very fearful of her goal threat and they will want to avoid a similar embarrassing scoreline later today should Wullaert be selected in Anderlecht’s starting XI.
The striker has been equally as deadly for her country during the international break. A further hat-trick for Belgium in a 6-1 home victory over Romania made it nine goals in two matches for Wullaert before she netted again for The Red Flames against Switzerland on Tuesday evening.
A handful of clubs across Europe were tracking Wullaert towards the end of last season with the player expected to leave former club Manchester City. In the end, Wullaert opted to return to Anderlecht, a club which previously she represented in the 2012/2013 campaign. You could question whether the player could have opted to test herself at a higher level this season given her goalscoring exploits.
