PREVIEW: Everton v Chelsea

Everton and Chelsea will finally battle it out for a place in the semi-finals of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup this weekend when they meet in the quarter-finals at Goodison Park.

The pair were set to meet back in March but the tie was suspended as football was placed on hold while the world commenced the fight against Covid-19.

Everton go into the tie with a perfect record from their opening two matches in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League. They won 4-0 at Bristol City on opening day while they recorded a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Walton Hall Park last time out.

Willie Kirk’s side began their 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup adventure against second tier side London Bees in Southport in January. Former midfielder Inessa Kaagman netted the only goal in difficult playing conditions on Merseyside. Everton followed up that victory with an excellent 5-0 success at Bristol City in which Lucy Graham twice got her name on the scoresheet against her former club.

Chelsea arrive at Goodison Park after collecting four points from their opening two fixtures in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Emma Hayes’ side were held by Manchester United on opening day before battering Bristol City 9-0 at Kingsmeadow prior to the international break.

Blues boss Hayes was able to rotate her squad as Chelsea won 4-0 at the FA Women’s Championship’s bottom club Charlton Athletic in the fourth round in January before her side had to show some mental toughness to see off Liverpool 1-0 at Kingsmeadow in the fifth round.

Sunday’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup quarter-final tie between Everton and Chelsea will kick-off at 1pm and will be available to stream live on the FA Player and via both clubs’ respective media channels.
