RTC defender becomes Liverpool’s youngest-ever debutant

A new milestone in the history of Liverpool FC was recorded this afternoon with defender Lucy Parry becoming the club’s youngest-ever debutant at the age of just 16 years and 150 days.

The teenager, who has been on The Reds’ books since the age of eight, had been an unused substitute in Liverpool’s first three games this season after impressing for the club’s Regional Talent Club (RTC).

She was again named amongst the substitutes as Vicky Jepson’s side travelled to Coventry United this afternoon and Parry was finally handed her debut in the 33rd minute of the match when she replaced Becky Jane at right-back.

Liverpool were two goals to the good at the Butts Park Arena when Parry was introduced. Melissa Lawley had given The Reds an early lead after getting on the end of a Kirsty Linnett cross before Amalie Thestrup netted her first goal for the club moments before Parry’s introduction.

Midfielder Becky Anderson pulled a goal back for Coventry United in the second half but the hosts were unable to prevent Liverpool from winning the match courtesy of a 2-1 scoreline.

Results elsewhere combined with the postponement of Charlton Athletic’s fixture against Sheffield United means that Liverpool top the FA Women’s Championship table after four matches.
