Chelsea and Arsenal begin their respective FA Women’s Continental League Cup campaigns at Kingsmeadow on Wednesday evening in a re-run of the 2019/2020 final.
Emma Hayes’ side went on to lift the trophy for the very first time after defeating The Gunners 2-1 at The City Ground in February with Beth England netting both goals.
Both coaches could opt to rotate their squads for their latest meeting with a hectic schedule of fixtures ahead. It is difficult to predict just how the teams will line up but changes are anticipated.
Chelsea manager Hayes could swap her goalkeepers with Carly Telford returning while the likes of Maria Thorisdottir, Hannah Blundell, Jess Carter, Niamh Charles and Sam Kerr may be considered for recalls. It would be no surprise to see Fran Kirby rested given her heavy involvement since returning from illness.
Arsenal will again be without goalkeeper Lydia Williams and midfielder Jill Roord while Kim Little and Lisa Evans are also expected to continue to be sidelined. Head coach Joe Montemurro could consider Lotte Wubben-Moy, Malin Gut, Noelle Maritz and Leonie Maier for starts after they were all named amongst the substitutes for The Gunners’ 3-1 victory over Bristol City at the weekend.
Chelsea’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup group stage match against Arsenal kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening and is not likely to be made available for live streaming.
