Manchester United trio named in Scotland squad

Manchester United trio Kirsty Smith, Kirsty Hanson and Jane Ross have all been included in Scotland manager Shelley Kerr’s 25-player squad for their upcoming UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifiers against Albania and Finland.

The Tartan Army host Albania at Tynecastle on Friday 23 October before travelling to Helsinki to take on Finland four days later.

The Scottish Football Association announced Kerr’s squad on their official website earlier today with Manchester United dominating the selections from south of the border.

In total, 17 members of Kerr’s 25-player squad currently play their football either in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League or FA Women’s Championship. Other notable names in the squad are Arsenal duo Jen Beattie and Kim Little, Everton pair Lucy Graham and Claire Emslie, Manchester City’s Caroline Weir and Chelsea forward Erin Cuthbert.

Scotland have only played two of their eight qualifying matches so far but they have recorded back-to-back wins. Two further victories over Albania and Finland will send Kerr’s side top of their qualification group and will set them up nicely on ‘The Road to England’.

The Tartan Army have not been in action since the Coronavirus pandemic first broke out. They last competed in early March in the Pinatar Cup in Spain.
