Rookie Liverpool keeper Foster believes that the club belongs in the top flight

Liverpool debutant Rylee Foster believes that the club belongs in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The Reds were controversially relegated to the FA Women’s Championship on a points-per-game-basis last season following the early curtailment of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League season due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Vicky Jepson’s side have bounced back to form this season and their improvement continued this afternoon as they saw off top flight opponents in the form of Manchester United in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup at Prenton Park. Goalkeeper Foster made her debut in the game and displayed some excellent handling and shot stopping, helping her club cause a cup shock.

When speaking to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time after the match, Foster said that Liverpool belong in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

“The result shows that we are not here just to play around” said the goalkeeper. “We know that as a club and as a team, we belong in the WSL.

“This performance shows that we can perform and we can compete.

“Its not over yet, we still have a lot to prove. We will keep on grafting and keep on going.”

Despite Manchester United being far from their best, Liverpool did not look out of place against their higher division opponents and Foster went on to say that her side are capable of performing at top levels.

She added “I think that performance today shows that we can compete with the clubs at the top of the Super League.

“We have just put away Manchester United 3-1 and they are competing at the top of their league.

“It just goes to show that women’s football is getting stronger, every game is a challenge and every game we will approach like it is our World Cup final.

“No game is easy but our ultimate challenge is to get back into the WSL.”

Liverpool’s promotion credentials arguably face one of their biggest tests so far on Sunday when they travel to Leicester City for their next FA Women’s Championship fixture. Foster’s performance against Manchester United will have surely increased the level of competition in the club’s goalkeeping department with the player putting real pressure on first choice keeper Rachael Laws for the number one jersey.
