Arsenal defender Leonie Maier and Chelsea pair Ann-Katrin Berger and Melanie Leupolz have been named in the German squad to face England in an international friendly match in Wiesbaden later this month.
The German Football Association, the DFB, revealed head coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s 24-player squad earlier today with three English-based players selected in the group.
Chelsea goalkeeper Berger is one of just two players in the German squad who are yet to collect a senior cap for their country, SGS Essen’s Nicole Anyomi being the other. Arsenal defender Maier could pick up her 75th senior international cap should she feature against The Lionesses while Chelsea midfielder Leupolz could be set for her 69th senior appearance.
England’s fixture against the Germans will see Phil Neville’s side contest a competitive fixture for the first time in more than seven months. They last competed in the 2020 SheBelieves Cup in the United States in March before the squad met at an internal training camp at St George’s Park last month, playing two 11v11 inter-squad friendlies.
The international friendly fixture between Germany and England is scheduled to take place at the Brita-Arena in Wiesbaden on Thursday 27 October with the match kicking-off at 3pm UK time.
