Reading duo on target for Wales as they hit four against the Faroes

Reading pair Natasha Harding and Lily Woodham were on target as Wales defeated the Faroe Islands 4-0 in their latest UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifier at Rodney Parade in Newport this evening.

Harding netted a brace for Jayne Ludlow’s side while club teammate Woodham came off the bench to score on her senior international debut on a positive evening for Wales.

Wales were dominant throughout but had to wait until the 33rd minute to break the deadlock when Jess Fishlock played in Helen Ward to thump the ball into the roof of the net from 10 yards.

Ludlow’s side doubled their lead just before the hour mark when Harding’s low effort squirmed beyond visiting keeper Oluva Joensen.

The same player made it 3-0 three minutes later with a header which was fumbled into the net by Joensen before youngster Woodham came off the bench to score her debut goal, heading in from just a few yards out.

The victory sees Wales extend their advantage in second place in their group to five points ahead of Tuesday’s meeting with group leaders Norway in Cardiff. The three points taken this evening were all the more important for Wales given the fact that third-placed nation Belarus and Northern Ireland in fourth place both have games in hand over Ludlow’s side.
