Everton ace Gauvin on target as France hit double figures against North Macedonia

Everton forward Valerie Gauvin was on target for France as they defeated North Macedonia 11-0 in a UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifier in Orleans this evening.

The 24-year-old forward netted Les Bleues’ first of their 11 goals after less than a minute played at Municipal.

While Gauvin started the match for France, Everton teammate Maeva Clemaron was named amongst the substitutes in Orleans and remained unused throughout the 90 minutes.

Gauvin opened the scoring shortly after the first whistle with the forward having been played in by Elisa de Almeida. Eugenie Le Sommer soon extended Corinne Diacre’s side’s lead following a free-kick from Grace Geyoro.

Le Sommer doubled her goal tally for the evening in the 21st minute before De Almeida got her name on the scoresheet.

Gauvin was then inches away from netting her second goal of the game but was denied by the woodwork before Kadidiatou Diani hit a fifth first half goal for the French.

The North Macedonian woodwork was rattling again early in the second half with Diani having been denied before the same player teed up Viviane Asseyi to make it 6-0.

Geyoro then netted two quick-fire goals as the French made it eight without reply before Le Sommer hit the third of her four goals.

Still the goals continued to flow with Delphine Cascarino’s strike taking France into double figures before Le Sommer completed both her’s and her country’s scoring for the evening with 12 minutes to go.

France have returned to the top of their group ahead of their meeting with second-placed nation Austria in Wiener Neustadt on Tuesday.
