Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema scored her 70th senior international goal for The Netherlands as they defeated Kosovo 6-0 at the Stadiumi Fadil Vokrri in Pristina this evening.
The 24-year-old had been stuck on 69 goals for her country for almost a year but she came off the bench to net the fifth goal for Sarina Wiegman’s Dutch side this evening.
With The Netherlands having already secured their place at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, head coach Wiegman opted to name all-time Dutch top scorer Miedema on the bench for the nation’s latest fixture in Pristina. There was still some Barclays FA Women’s Super League representation in the starting XI with Arsenal’s Danielle van de Donk and Manchester United’s Jackie Groenen being selected in midfield.
It was Van de Donk who broke the deadlock after 11 minutes before Bordeaux striker Katja Snoeijs’ effort made it 2-0. Lieke Martens then hit a third before Snoeijs’ second goal gave The Netherlands a 4-0 lead going into the break.
There were no goals in the second half until Miedema stuck her 70th senior international goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time before Snoeijs completed her hat-trick moments later to round-off a 6-0 win.
The Netherlands will complete their successful qualifying campaign with the return fixture against Kosovo in December.
