Manchester City boss would rank Wembley victory as biggest achievement

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor believes that victory for his side in the 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley on Sunday will rank as the biggest achievement in his coaching career so far.

The 47-year-old already has two Under-18 Premier League Cups under his name from his time working as a coach within the Manchester City academy system but Sunday will provide him with an opportunity to add a first major trophy to his personal tally in the form of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

Speaking in Manchester City’s pre-match press conference in which FA Women’s Super League Full-Time were present, Taylor admitted that lifting the Vitality FA Women’s FA Cup would rank as his biggest coaching achievement so far.

“For us to win the trophy on Sunday would be amazing” said the Manchester City head coach. “It’d be the biggest achievement of my coaching career so far.

“To be in a position where I am looking forward to a cup final and leading out the team is a hugely proud moment for me.”

It has been far from ideal preparation for Manchester City with an international break and the club having to adopt a more Covid-friendly approach in the lead up to the final. Taylor is using his experience to keep his squad calm and collected ahead of their showdown with Everton in the capital.

“Sometimes you can let big games and big occasions get the better of you” said Taylor. “It happened to me in the past as a player.

“It is about making sure that we go about our normal business, we treat the game like any other game, getting the girls to follow the processes that we work to with and without the ball and focus on the things that we can affect that are in our hands.”

Manchester City arrive at Wembley on Sunday defending the Vitality Women’s FA Cup while Everton are bidding to lift the trophy for the first time in a decade.
