PREVIEW: London City Lionesses v Arsenal

London City Lionesses and Arsenal will be looking to collect their first points in this season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup group stage when they meet in their second group fixture at Princes Park on Wednesday.

Melissa Phillips’ Lionesses were defeated 4-0 at Tottenham Hotspur in their first match while Arsenal were beaten 4-1 at current trophy holders Chelsea.

Despite taking on one of the biggest forces in English football, London City Lionesses will be confident ahead of their meeting with The Gunners. The Pride defeated promotion-hopefuls Leicester City 4-1 at Princes Park in the FA Women’s Championship on Sunday with Atlanta Primus particularly impressing after scoring a brace. Head coach Phillips is likely to field a similar starting line-up against Arsenal to the one that saw off The Foxes at the weekend.

Arsenal manager Joe Montemurro could be restricted to just how many changes he will be able to make due to the ongoing injury situation at the club. Steph Catley, Jordan Nobbs, Jill Roord and Lisa Evans are all soon to return to training following their respective injury problems but Wednesday’s fixture is likely to come too soon, while goalkeeper Fran Stenson is also sidelined. It remains to be seen whether Kim Little will be risked if deemed fit to feature. Montemurro could consider handing a debut to goalkeeper Lydia Williams.

London City Lionesses’ FA Women’s Continental League Cup fixture against Arsenal is scheduled to kick-off at 7.30pm on Wednesday evening with highlights likely to be made available on the FA Player.
