Arsenal goal machine nets quadruple in Conti Cup victory

Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema was at her brilliant best once again this evening, scoring all four goals as her side won 4-0 against London City Lionesses at Princes Park in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.

The Dutch international netted a hat-trick inside 40 first half minutes before adding a further goal to both her own and her side’s tally in the second half.

Miedema’s opening goal came after 21 minutes and was a real stunner. The forward advanced through the entire London City Lionesses half, beating off defenders before picking her spot.

Fellow forward Caitlin Roord played in Miedema to produce an emphatic finish for her second goal six minutes later before she completed her hat-trick five minutes before half-time with a close range finish.

Miedema added her fourth and final goal shortly after the break as the goalscoring came to an end. Foord was unlucky not to add to the scoreline late in the half when she saw a shot hit the post as the game ended 4-0 in Arsenal’s favour.

The Gunners now trail group leaders Chelsea by three points while they are level on points with North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal face Spurs in their final group match at Meadow Park in a fortnight’s time.
