PREVIEW: Manchester United v Arsenal

The most mouth-watering fixture in Barclays FA Women’s Super League this weekend sees unbeaten duo Manchester United and Arsenal go head-to-head at The Leigh Sports Village.

Just two points separate the two clubs after five matches and there is the added incentive of possibly moving to the league summit for the hosts should they record victory and Everton fail to win at Chelsea.

Manchester United return to action following a three-week break. The Red Devils were due to take on Everton in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup in midweek but the fixture was postponed due to wind damage at Walton Hall Park.

United boss Casey Stoney has no new injury concerns to contend with ahead of her side’s fixture against Arsenal. Late fitness tests could be handed to attacking pair Alessia Russo and Ivana Fuso.

The injury situation at Arsenal looks to be improving with head coach Joe Montemurro having Fran Stenson, Leonie Maier, Jill Roord and Kim Little available for selection once again. Steph Catley, Noelle Maritz, Jordan Nobbs and Lisa Evans are also back in training, although the trip to The Leigh Sports Village will come too soon to allow them to complete their respective first team returns.

Manchester United’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Arsenal at The Leigh Sports Village will kick-off at 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon and will be screened live on MUTV and the FA Player.
