Blackburn Rovers head coach Katie Quinlan admitted that the most pleasing factor of the club’s 3-0 victory over London Bees this afternoon was their ability to kill the game off.
Since their promotion to the second tier in 2019, Rovers have only ever won an FA Women’s Championship fixture by more than a single goal once while their 3-0 success over London Bees was their biggest winning margin at the club’s current level.
Prior to this afternoon’s victory at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium, both of Rovers’ previous wins this season were by the odd goal and when speaking to FA Women’s Super League after the match, Quinlan admitted that she was pleased to see her side finish the game off.
“We said at half-time that we needed to get ahead of the pack and score again” said the Rovers head coach. “It gets very nervous and it’s hard work when you only have a 1-0 lead so it’s very nice to get ahead with a couple of goals.
“I think that there were more goals to come in that game, credit to their goalkeeper as she made two fantastic saves.
“From set plays we were also effective today and we hit the bar a couple of times, there is more to come from us.”
On-loan Everton forward Elise Hughes has had an exceptional week for Rovers. The youngster netted in the club’s 5-2 defeat to Leicester City in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup in midweek while she was twice on the scoresheet against London Bees this afternoon. Hughes has had some rotten luck with injuries in the early days of her career but Blackburn Rovers head coach Quinlan is pleased to see the forward enjoy some long-awaited success.
When speaking about Hughes’ performance this afternoon, Quinlan said “We knew straight away when she came into the club that she would make an impact.
“It has taken her a little bit of time to settle in but it is really nice to see her on the scoresheet.”
Blackburn Rovers are back in action again on Sunday when Liverpool make the short trip to The Sir Tom Finney Stadium in the FA Women’s Championship.
