London City Lionesses’ clash with Chelsea postponed

London City Lionesses’ FA Women’s Continental League Cup fixture against Chelsea which was set to take place at Princes Park this evening has been postponed according to reports on The Blues’ official website.

It is understood that members of the London City Lionesses camp have tested positive for COVID-19 resulting in the match being called off.

The postponement is the home side’s second in four days with Sunday’s South East London derby with Charlton Athletic having also been cancelled just hours before kick-off as a result of The Addicks’ pitch at their Oakwood home being waterlogged.

Had tonight’s game have taken place, London City Lionesses would have been tasked with trying to prevent the current FA Women’s Continental League Cup holders from claiming maximum points from their group. Chelsea have already defeated Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in this season’s competition and are on the verge of qualifying for the quarter-finals.

London City Lionesses’ fixture against Chelsea is one of two FA Women’s Continental League Cup group matches to be called off this week due to positive COVID-19 tests. Birmingham City’s clash with Leicester City at the SportNation.bet Stadium in Solihull has also been postponed for the same reason.

A new date for London City Lionesses’ FA Women’s Continental League Cup fixture against Chelsea will be announced in due course.
