West Ham United boss Beard departs by mutual consent

West Ham United are searching for a new manager following this morning’s announcement that Matt Beard has left his position by mutual consent.

The 42-year-old spent almost two-and-a-half years with the East Londoners, helping the club establish themselves as a professional top flight side and guiding them to the 2019 SSE Women’s FA Cup final.

West Ham United announced Beard’s departure via their official club website this morning. The club have placed goalkeeping coach Billy Stewart and first-team coach Paul McHugh in interim charge whilst they undergo an extensive recruitment programme.

Beard’s decision to leave The Chigwell Construction Stadium may have partially been influenced by West Ham United’s recent results, although the former Chelsea and Liverpool boss has admitted that the time is right for a change both on a personal level and for the club.

On the pitch, West Ham United have won just one of their seven matches in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League, losing all four of their home fixtures. Only bottom club Bristol City have conceded more goals than The Hammers.

There is clearly plenty of talent and potential in the current West Ham United squad and the club will now be hoping to make the right appointment to allow them to move onto the next level.
