Chelsea forward Pernille Harder will have the opportunity to at least equal Denmark’s all-time record goal tally on Tuesday evening with the player having been cleared to face Italy without having to self-isolate upon her return to the United Kingdom.
The Danes take on Italy in their final UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifier in Viborg on Tuesday evening and there were concerns ahead of the match that Harder, along with Everton’s Rikke Sevecke and Nicoline Sorensen and Aston Villa’s Stine Larsen, would be unable to travel home due to English quarantine rules.
The quartet were set to remain in England and avoid a period of self-isolation, however, the Danish Football Association, the DBU, have today confirmed that the players will be exempt from quarantine and can therefore link-up with their national teammates ahead of the match.
Chelsea forward Harder goes into the match having scored 64 senior international goals, one short of all-time record Danish goalscorer Merete Pederson. The player now has an opportunity to at least equal Pedersen’s tally should she find the back of the net against Italy.
Pedersen’s record was achieved in 136 appearances for her country. Harder can equal or beat the forward’s record goal tally in 13 games less.
Denmark have already qualified for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 tournament finals while Tuesday’s opponents Italy are assured of at least a play-off place, although they can yet win the group and qualify automatically themselves.
