Chelsea confirm that they are ready to welcome back fans for West Ham United fixture

Chelsea have confirmed that they will be in a position to welcome fans back to Kingsmeadow for their Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United on Sunday 6 December.

Both clubs fall within tier two of the UK Government’s new tiered approach to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and Chelsea yesterday received the green light to accommodate up to 2,000 spectators for future matches whilst Kingsmeadow remains in the current tier.

In total, 13 of the 23 Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship clubs are now able to welcome back supporters, although there will be several challenges for clubs to overcome to enable them to be in a position to re-open turnstiles within a relatively short period of time.

In the case of Chelsea, the club released an update on their official website last night confirming that fans will be permitted to attend their next Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against London rivals West Ham United at Kingsmeadow. Blues officials have asked fans to refrain from contacting the club with further admission details to be provided in the coming days.

The South West Londoners could come up against a West Ham United side without a manager next weekend with previous boss Matt Beard having left the club last week. The Hammers have a poor recent record against Chelsea which includes a heavy 8-0 mauling at Kingsmeadow back in February.

Chelsea have not admitted supporters to their home ground since they defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup fifth round on 17 February but are now in a position to open their gates once again.
