Everton duo dreaming of England after France secure EURO qualification

Everton pair Maeva Clemaron and Valerie Gauvin will have their sights firmly set upon England with France having last night secured their place in the UEFA Women’s EURO tournament finals in 2022.

Corinne Diacre’s side defeated Austria 3-0 at the Stade de Roudourou in Guingamp to claim their ticket to England 2022.

Everton midfielder Clemaron was an unused substitute for Les Bleues while club teammate Gauvin would surely have been named in the squad if not for a muscle injury which has ruled her out of action until the New Year.

French captain Wendie Renard put the hosts ahead after just 11 minutes before Marie-Antoinette Katoto struck to give Diacre’s side a comfortable 2-0 first half lead.

The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup hosts added one further goal to their tally in the second half when Katoto finally netted her second of the game after hitting the woodwork earlier in the half.

France become the seventh nation to qualify for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 with last night’s opponents Austria, a side which included Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger, assured of a place in the play-offs.

With France having little to play for in their final qualifying match against Kazakhstan in Vannes on Tuesday evening, midfielder Clemaron will be hoping to be handed game time and in-turn, collect her sixth senior cap.
