Former Manchester United forward Lizzie Arnot netted her first hat-trick for latest club Rangers yesterday as they defeated Motherwell 9-0 in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.
The 24-year-old opened her goalscoring account for The Gers at Forfar Farmington last week and she added a further three goals to her tally at The Hummel Training Centre yesterday.
Kirsty Howat gave Rangers an early lead against Motherwell before Arnot opened her account for the afternoon. Megan Bell’s strike soon made it 3-0 before Arnot netted a free-kick and a penalty to make it 5-0 to the hosts before the half-time whistle had sounded.
Malky Thomson’s side added four more goals to their tally in the second half. Howat completed her hat-trick with two further strikes while Daina Bourma and Bala Devi were on-target as The Gers completed an emphatic victory which kept them within three points of league leaders Glasgow City.
Forward Arnot joined Rangers in the summer after her contract at Manchester United came to an end. The Scotland international made 34 appearances in all competitions in her two years at The Leigh Sports Village, scoring nine goals including United’s first-ever goal which came against Liverpool in August 2018. The forward helped The Red Devils to the FA Women’s Championship title in 2018/2019 before finding appearances more difficult to come by in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
